I looked at a Kubota L245 DT today. The owner is asking $500 for it. It is in rough shape. It has a cracked head and he left the head off the engine leaving it open and exposed to the elements. As a result, I'm guessing the engine needs to be rebuilt. The steering box is shot, several gauges are broken, a fender is missing, it's got some surface rust and is in bad need of a paint job. He said the transmission works fine and the hydraulics look okay from what I can see. He said it's a 24 hp diesel 4WD. The tires look like they are in good shape (turf tires on back) and the seat is in good shape. I asked a friend and he said I should leave it where it's at. I would buy it and work on it but I have no idea how expensive doing an engine overhaul on a Kubota is. It sounds expensive though. My father-in-law and I could do the work ourselves. Any idea whether it's worth salvaging or is it good for parts?

Thanks,

Greg

Make him an offer of $250 and see what he says. It is worth that for scrap iron. You may be able to find another head and other misc. parts at West Kentucky Tractor Parts. They helped me out when I had my L245. Great little tractors! Tractorsmart dot com also carries a wide variety of parts for these tractors as well. You might end up with maybe $500 to $1,000 in it all said and done if you are lucky. It will be a long project and the little details will nickel and dime you to death. I also have a L245 Parts Manual in .pdf format if you need one. ....

Chief:

Could you e-mail me the parts manual. My father-in-law looked at it tonight. He said the engine does not need to be rebuilt. I would just need to get the head repaired or replaced.

Thanks,
Greg ....
